Elisa Scrollavezza was born in Parma on February 4th 1967 and grew up in constant contact with the workshop environment of her father Renato, whose steps she decided to follow at the age of 18. In 1991 she graduated from the Parma School of Violin-Making. In 1994 she started assisting her father as an apprentice and since 1999 she also took over the responsibility for the organization of the courses at the violin making school, two tasks which she has carried on over the years to the present day. She has worked as a professional violin-maker since obtaining the diploma, her instruments being treasured in many parts of the world such as Italy, Germany, United Kingdom, US, Japan, Taiwan and other countries. In her work she naturally follows her father's working methods and style, at the same time expressing a most personal taste. Aesthetically, Elisa aims at blending a strong and spontaneous impact of the instrument with the harmony of its lines and volumes; all this is emphasized by a deep-colored and bright oil varnish which enhances the beauty of the extremely seasoned material selected; she also pays a special attention to instrument's set up and the choice of fittings. Tonally she aims at a noble and silvery quality of sound, which must be also characterized by the fullness and power required by the most demanding players. In 2002 Elisa opened with Andrea Zanrè "Scrollavezza e Zanrè Snc", now located in the prestigious new premises of Parma historical center. Here she devotes herself mainly to the making of new instruments for a clientèle of international dealers, collectors and professional musicians.
